Of the total children population in the state of Guanajuato, 13.23% have to work for living, which means that more than 199,000 kids under 16 years of age have a job; these are official statistics from the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare (STyPS – Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social).
The agency published a document showing the child employment rate in Mexico, according to the database in the Datos Abiertos government website.
It is quite disturbing to learn that more than 199,000 children in the state of Guanajuato have a job. It represents 13.23% of the total child population.
At a national level, the percentage of child labor population is 8.64%, which indicates that Guanajuato is well above the national average.
The states with the highest percentage of working minors are: Colima with 14%, Guerrero with 13.8%, Puebla with 13.6%, Guanajuato with 13.23%, Zacatecas with 11.9%, Oaxaca with 11.7% and Tabasco with 11.4%.
Meanwhile, the states with the lowest percentages are Querétaro (4.2%), Baja California (4.4%) and Mexico City (4.9%).
