Between January and May this year, Japan has become one of the most important export destinations for Guanajuato, but the “rising sun nation” is second to the People’s Republic of China.
During the first five months of 2016, 40.3 million US dollars in products from Guanajuato were exported to Japan; while 209.1 million US dollars were exported to China.
The nations that follow Japan in the list are: South Korea, Thailand, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam, according to data from the Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (COFOCE Coordinadora de Fomento al Comercio Exterior).
The main products that Guanajuato exports to Japan are: silver and concentrates ores, parts for car seats, exterior automotive, hexanelactam (caprolactam epsilon, razors and shavers, stamped parts for automobiles’ body and other vehicle parts and accessories; also produce such as frozen and fresh broccoli, cauliflower and sesame seeds.
The municipality with the highest participation in exports during those 5 months is San Miguel de Allende, with 11.2 million US dollars. Followed by Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Cortazar, Guanajuato, Irapuato and León.
During this period, 90 companies participated, generating at least 33, 498 direct jobs, according to information from the COFOCE.
