“Independence Route Race” from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende

Five Universities of Querétaro and Guanajuato organize and sponsor the “Independence Route Race” (Carrera de la Ruta de la Independencia); that will take place at 9 am on Friday September 9, with starting line in front of Querétaro’s Government Palace.

During this event, a total of 75 athletes, from five organizer institutions, will be carrying “the libertarian fire”, running from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende as part of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the creation of the Technological Universities in Mexico.

The following institutions will be participating: Aeronautics University of Queretaro (Universidad Aeronáutica de Querétaro), Technological University of Querétaro (Universidad Tecnológica de Querétaro), Technological University of Salamanca (Universidad Tecnológica de Salamanca), Technological Southwest University (Universidad Tecnológica del Suroeste) and Technological University of San Miguel de Allende (Universidad Tecnológica de San Miguel de Allende), aiming to promote civic values ​​and endorse their commitment towards integral formation of the young people across the country.

A ceremony on the starting line will be attended by the Governor of Querétaro, Francisco Domínguez Servién and the General Coordinator of Technological Universities and Polytechnics, Hector Arreola Soria.

After traveling 65 km (in a relay race), “the Libertarian fire” will reach the main square of San Miguel de Allende at 1 pm, where it will be received by Mayor Ricardo Villareal Garcia and the Technological University of San Miguel de Allende (UTSMA) rector, Daniel Jimenez Rodriguez.

 A program of cultural activities will be also presented by the participating universities.

At a press conference in the Technological University of San Miguel de Allende, the announcment was made by Daniel Jimenez Rodriguez from UTSMA and Alfredo Lopez Herrera from Technological University of Salamanca.
