Last weekend, Celaya’s Municipal Tourism authorities went to San Miguel de Allende with the  ‘Con Sabor a Celaya‘ (With a Taste of Celaya) caravan, with the purpose of promoting Celayan products and services, so residents of SMA, both nationals and foreigners, consider the “Golden Gate of the Bajío” (La puerta de oro del Bajío),  as an alternative during the holidays.

The World Heritage City, received at least 21 exhibitors in the parking lot of La Luciérnaga square, where hundreds of visitors came to have a “taste of Celaya”. The site was attended by service providers from the sector, visitors and the general public, where they were they were cordially invited to visit the city of Celaya during the December – January holiday period.

The director of the Tourism Council of Celaya, Raúl Jiménez Arreola, stated that this caravan is bringing the real Celaya to San Miguel de Allende, showcasing their gastronomy, their world famous cajeta and other traditional candies, handicrafts, tourist attractions and artisanal beer.

Jiménez Arreola said: “We want people to visit us, to appreciate our historical sites, to stay for lunch, to go visit the mummies museum, our temples, to spend the night in Celaya.”

On behalf of the service providers, president of the Hotel Association of Celaya, Miguel Alejandro Cano, stressed the importance that Celaya has for the people of San Miguel de Allende, due to the proximity and said that, since San Miguel bears such a high hotel occupancy during the weekends, visitors should consider Celaya as an alternative tourist destination.

Cano explained that hotel occupancy in Celaya is higher during weekdays due to the great number of business travelers that visit the plants and factories in the area (mostly Japanese), reason why they want to promote attractive lodging options for the weekend, when they have lower occupancy.
