SMA residents demonstrate against modifications in streets of “Centro”

Residents of San Miguel de Allende demonstrated during the morning of Monday December 19, to protest against the works that will be done in streets of the downtown area.

The call was made through social networks, where residents invited everybody to demand the preservation of the historical patrimony from the municipal authorities .

Demonstrators also requested transparency in all information regarding the works intended for this important area of  “centro“, comprehending the streets of Aldama, Prolongación Aldama, Nemesio Diez and Ancha de San Antonio.

“This demonstration will be peaceful, organized and quiet. Besides, we will totally avoid confrontation and/or violence, and we will not fall for any kind of provocation or incitement, ” residents stated.

More than 100 people gathered, including national and foreign residents of SMA, as well as members of civil associations. People carried signs with the phrase “Save Aldama”.

Some of the demonstrators declared that they do not believe Mayor Ricardo Villarreal’s statements, who has said that the project has not been approved yet, and at the moment only the sidewalks (banquetas) will be remodeled  in order to make them more “inclusive” for people with disabilities.
