GUANAJUATO, Gto – On March 9th – 19th 2017, the 14th Annual Cuba Fest returns to the the cities of Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, featuring world-class events with the incredible flavors and Latin rhythms of the Caribbean island.

Maria Guadalupe Meza, Cuba Fest Director, explained: “For this year we’ve prepared a festival aimed to celebrate the 115th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Cuba through several talks, conferences and exhibitions”.

During the Festival, we’ll be paying tribute to Francisco Gabilondo Soler CRI CRI, with the presentation of Omara Portuondo’s album featuring the Mexican composer’s work, and of course, we cannot miss the famous Cuban rumba shows.

By the way, “during those ten days, 350 national and foreign dancers, seven musical and artistic groups, along with thirty-five Cuban artists will be presenting all kinds of different Cuban shows. Besides, eight film premieres, four books’ presentations, and three lectures will take place in eight venues,” mentioned Guadalupe Meza.

“Guanajuato and San Miguel will be full with Cuban color, flavor and rhythm in the next days”: underlined Meza.

According to committee organizer, the presentation of the album ‘Omara Portuondo sings Cri Cri‘, which was nominated in the 2016 Grammy awards, will be a formidable surprise. The presentation will take place in the framework of 100th anniversary of the Mexican composer’s birthday.

Indeed, it is a very pleasant production because the inspiration of Cri Cri will merge with the extraordinary voice of one of the best Cuban singers nowadays.

“As a part of the Festival’s program, a tribute will be dedicated to the famous Pío Leyva, singer and composer who shared scenarios with legends such as Benny Moré, and interpreted his compositions “Francisco Guayabal” and “Mulata”; explained the Director. Nevertheless, ‘El Mentiroso’ was his most important work that indisputably elevated him to the fame.

Pío Leyva has performed in major international stages such as Carnegie Hall and the International Festival Cervantino (FIC) where he sang with the ‘Afro Cuban All Stars’ group and he was the main character of the German film produced by Wim Wenders:’ The Sons of Cuba’.
