Guanajuato registers 500 homicides during the first four months of the year

According to Am.com.mx, a total of 500 intentional homicides committed by criminal groups were registered in the state of Guanajuato during the first quarter of this year 2017, representing an average of  four people murdered daily.

For that reason, the state of Guanjuato has been placed ninth in terms of number of victims, just below the State of Mexico, Guerrero, Chihuahua, Baja California, Veracruz, Sinaloa, Michoacán and Jalisco.

According to data from the National System of Public Security, at least 104 executions took place in January 2017, 123 killings in February and a total of 126 during March.

On April 2017, Am.com.mx online newspaper recorded 174 victims, a new historical record of executions in the last 20 years, for an average of six homicide victims a day.

The state government seeks to multiply efforts to fight criminal groups through more intense security operations involving federal, state and municipal security forces, as well as Attorney General’s Office personnel (Google)



The data indicates that the city of León ranks first with 32 murders in January, 36 in February, 30 in March and 26 during the month of April.

Celaya is second with 13 intentional homicides registered during the month of April.

The people of Guanajuato is very concerned about this intense violence wave, that is growing dramatically in small municipalities such as “Pénjamo“, in third place with 14 homicides, followed by “Apaseo el Alto” with 12 cases. While “Apaseo el Grande”, “Tarimoro” and Irapuato, have recorded 11 homicides each, during April.

Silao and Salamanca registered nine cases, “Jerécuaro” eight; “San Francisco del Rincón” and “Juventino Rosas” seven; “San Luis de la Paz” five; “Salvatierra” and “Acámbaro” 4 respectively.

Finally, three people were murdered in the communities of “Manuel Doblado“, “Abasolo“, Villagrán” and “Purísima“. Meanwhile, two more were found dead in “Cortazar” and “Uriangato” and other six isolated murders took place in other communities.
