San Miguel de Allende.- “Both the natural Christmas trees and the poinsettias will be collected for their correct disposal”, announced the direction of the environment.

The waste collection campaign, in charge of the Environment and Sustainability department, began on Monday, January 10th, and will last until February 4.

The collection centers will be in the Zeferino Gutiérrez and Benito Juárez public parks, as well as in the municipal nursery and in the dependency’s own facilities, these will have a schedule from 9 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon.

People can dispose of these plants so that the municipality defines their fate, either by rescuing a specimen that is still alive and replanting it for reproduction in the municipal nursery or using it to generate compost that will be used in the green areas of public spaces, to improve the infiltration and natural fertility of the soil.

The municipal official added that, according to the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), revaluing waste implies appreciating it, not as a mixture of dirt and useless waste, but by applying a circular model of production and consumption, which implies using these materials, to create added value and extend their life cycle.
