Guanajuato’s Tourism Director, Salvador Jaime, reported that for this weekend between 40 and 45 thousand visitors are expected at the state capital, not to mention the fact that at this moment, hotels are already almost 100 % in occupation.
He pointed out that this number of visitors is what is normally recorded during long weekends, nevertheless, he said that this will be a very intense weekend for the city, as thousands want to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day in Guanajuato.
“We are going to have a very good occupation from Friday to Sunday, the city of Guanajuato is historically very important to celebrate the “patriotic” holidays (fiestas patrias) and we expect hotels to reach 100% hotel occupation”, said the municipal official.
He also said that at the moment there is no estimate of the economic impact that this weekend will leave for the people of Guanajuato, but he mentioned that it will be significant, considering the fact that September is always a low tourist season.
Salvador Jaime concluded that on the occasion of the traditional “Grito de Independencia” (Cry of Independence), on Friday, September 15, several events will take place at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, starting at 6:00 pm including mariachi music, the folkloric ballet of the University of Guanajuato and children’s ballet, among others.
