On January 18, a citizen of Guanajuato and resident of the town of Salvatierra wrote the following letter to Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez:
LETTER FROM A SALVATERRIAN CITIZEN TO THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
To Miguel Márquez Márquez:
While you read this letter in the peace of your home, the citizens of Salvatierra invite you to set foot on our land, and live with the insecurity with which we and our families wake up every morning, fearing that it could be the last day on our lives.
We talk to you Mr. Governor, who are more worried about financing the pre-campaign to your candidate Diego Sinhue, why don’t you finance a security program instead? A program with more resources and better salary for the police.
You do not know what it is like to go to work on a daily basis, take the children to school, go for a walk in the streets, with the fear of a shootout, and although most citizens are not involved in crime, more innocent people is getting shot for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Because while you hide in your own words saying that “families are involved in organized crime”, the people of Salvatierra live in constant FEAR, IMPOTENCE, and SADNESS.
Mr. Governor come to Salvatierra and take a walk through the streets, businesses are closed because people are afraid to go to work.
More and more police agents are dying in the line of duty, as they try to protect citizens, but it is obvious that our police officers are not trained due to lack of budget. The citizens demand you to do something about it.
Is your solution a unique command? Mr. Governor, ask for federal support, the Mexican Army and Marines are needed here.
You look very happy, with that smile of Lucifer that you have in the photo… but we are worried about the wave of violence that our municipality is going through.
And while you calmly live and sleep, citizens live in fear, not knowing where the next shooting will take place and who will die next.
Sincerely,
A citizen of Salvatierra.
