Hundreds of tourists overflowed Guanajuato’s Museum of the Mummies (Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato), causing long lines from the entrance of the building, all the way to the street known as “Ascenso al panteón de Santa Paula“.
During the Semana Santa holiday week, from the early morning hours and until 3:00 in the afternoon, there was an intense mobilization of visitors walking through the streets of Tepetapa and Ascenso al panteón, as well as vehicles trying to enter the Museum of the Mummies, which parking lot was totally full every single day of the week.
It was observed that hundreds of people stood in line for several minutes to enter the site, and at times the line seemed endless.
The large number of tourists caused that all residents of the neighborhood of La Guitarra ended up renting their garages and parking spaces to travelers, with fees of up to 50 pesos per car and 70 pesos per truck.
