At a gala ceremony organized on Tuesday July 24 in a hotel in New York City, Travel & Leisure Magazine officially recognized San Miguel as the best city in the world for second consecutive year. San Miguel was designated number one through the vote of the readers of this world-leader publication.
“With its colorful architecture adorned with flowers and its cobbled-stone streets, San Miguel offers the feeling of being a small colonial town, although its large population of artists gives it a cosmopolitan vibe,” according to Travel & Leisure.
Readers chose San Miguel, above cities such as Florence, Rome or Kyoto, due to the urban atmosphere, as well as its wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and cultural attractions.
Guillermo González Engelbrecht, general director of the Tourist Council of San Miguel de Allende, celebrated the recognition and pointed out that this distinction, granted for the second consecutive year, represents a very big responsibility for the Tourism authorities of San Miguel.
“Due in part to these awards, San Miguel has been growing and now we are working so that the offer does not expand excessively, so our city can conserve its unique identity and authenticity,” said González.
In an interview with Notimex, the official said that the city has remained a favorite of international tourism due, in addition, to its security and tranquility, and because the city also hosts 12,000 foreign permanent residents.
In addition to Gonzalez, the president of the Tourist Council of San Miguel, Francisco García Chávez, l; the general manager of the Rosewood hotel, Alfredo Rentería; and the deputy director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico, Daniela Leaman.
