“The state and federal governments will collaborate in the creation of a Wine Museum in Querétaro, before the big success of wine tourism along the Route of Art, Cheese and Wine”, informed Francisco Domínguez Servién, governor of the state.
During the 2018 Fall Gala, in the municipality of Tequisquiapan, the governor declared that this idea was the result of a meeting held with Miguel Torruco Marqués, who will be tourism secretary in the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
He also said that the project could be created in the capital, San Juan del Río or Tequisquiapan, which would be developed with state and federal budget. However, the Ministry of Tourism will be responsible for verifying in which municipality the Wine Museum will be installed.
In the event, Domínguez Servién assured that the Route of Art, Cheese and Wine is the second most important tourist product of Querétaro, besides that it is a benchmark of the wine and gastronomic tourism of the country.
“We closed with the culmination of the harvest season in our Route of Art, Cheese and Wine, which has 13 vintage festivals so far this year, receives more than 800 thousand tourists annually with a spill of more than three billion pesos (…) Without a doubt, the wine indsutry in Queretaro is passing through a great moment, “he said.
The state leader indicated that during this year there was an increase of 13.6% in the number of visitors and 66 new hotels were opened.
“Our state capital was consolidated as the second destination in the interior of the country in hotel occupancy. All this is the result of the great conditions offered by our state. Of the great vocation of service of the workers of the sector. Of multiple synergies generated with the Federal Tourism Secretariat and an extraordinary promotion”.
In this regard, the Undersecretary of Innovation and Tourism Development of the Federal Tourism Secretariat, Rubén Gerardo Corona González, acknowledged the work that Queretaro has done in tourism.
Last August, Querétaro hosted the selection of wines from Mexico of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, in which the state obtained the second place and its wines were awarded with 19 medals.
