Guanajuato stands out in national robotic tournament

The Guanajuato teams that participated in the Mexican WER 2018 National Robotics Tournament swept the competition and obtained their pass to the international stage that will take place on December 15 and 16 in Shanghai, China.

Out of the 15 tickets that were in play in this tournament, 11 of them were won by students from Guanajuato in the basic and upper secondary levels, which will integrate the national team that will represent Mexico in the international stage.

In the secondary category there were 60 participating teams, of which four qualified for the World Cup, among them the technical secondary number 3 of Celaya (Escuela Secundaria Técnica Número 3 de Celaya), general secondary Ignacio Manuel Altamirano of Pueblo Nuevo (Escuela Secundaria General de Pueblo Nuevo), technical secondary number 29 of Pénjamo (Escuela Secundaria Técnica Número 29 de Pénjamo), and the general secondary Melchor Ocampo (Escuela Secundaria General Melchor Ocampo).

Talking about Preparatorias, (High schools), 190 teams participated and only 11 of them qualified to the world cup, of which 7 are from Guanajuato; the Cecyte de Comonfort II, Conalep de Silao, Cecyte de San Juan de la Vega, Colegio Subiré de León, Conalep de Silao, Colegio Subiré de León and Cecyte de Valle de Santiago.

According to the Director of the World Educational Robot in Mexico, Gilberto Pineda, WER is a unique educational robotics competition in the world, its purpose is to promote the cognitive and socio-emotional development of participating students.

For the 2018 edition of this tournament more than 10 thousand students from the eliminatory level participated at the institution level to state and regional events, where more than 2 thousand students attended, forming more than 700 teams.

In the national stage, 250 teams participated, of which Guanajuato contributed with 127 teams, of which 32 correspond to Secundaria and 95 to Preparatoria. The 11 teams from Guanajuato that obtained their pass to the international competition will participate in the Robotics World Championship to be held in December in Shanghai, China.
