On Thursday May 16th, a journalist from Playa del Carmen became the first individual murdered since the government of Quintana Roo assumed control of the security forces in the municipality of Solidaridad.

Just a few hours after the head of the Public Security Secretariat in the State, Alberto Capella Ibarra, officially received the command of the police forces of Playa del Carmen, the dead body of a person was found on Calle 25,  between 110 and Arco Vial.

According to preliminary information, the body was identified as Francisco Romero, better known as the “Ñaca-Ñaca“, a local journalist. The corpse presented signs of violence in different parts of the body and a bullet in the head.

Romero was administrator and director of the Facebook information page “Ocurrió Aquí“, in addition to collaborating for different news outlets in Playa del Carmen.

Local authorities are still investigating and collecting data at the crime scene. But so far, no arrests have been made in relation with this murder.
