CANCUN Q.Roo – Quintana Roo continues to be threatened by violence. At approximately 22:00 hours on Tuesday July 2nd, a group of armed men kidnapped at least 27 workers who were in a call center on Santa Fe Avenue located in Super Manzana 524 of the Municipality of Benito Juarez, better known as Cancun. “Witnesses claim that the suspects arrived to the location aboard two Vans and left the premises with the employees”, reported the Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo. According to state authorities, the first line of investigation derives from a lawsuit between former partners. The only two shareholders of the call center separated 15 days ago for lack of payment and mistreatment of employees. The perpetrators also took three cars and a motorcycle, property of the people who worked there. The offices where the aggrieved were located are intended to provide services for the sale of vacation spaces. The Police Commissioner of Quintana Roo, Alberto Capella, said that in the next few hours the State Attorney’s Office will issue an official statement, once it has sufficient evidence or elements around the facts. According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, at least seven kidnappings were committed between January and May 2019, six of which were taken as hostages. Meanwhile, the number of homicides in Quintana Roo comes up to 627, in the first quarter of the year.
