Every week in San Miguel de Allende, an average of 19 weddings of foreign and national who choose to marry in this World Heritage City of the state of Guanajuato take place.
In just one year, more than 800 couples based in Mexico City, State of Mexico, Monterrey, Tamaulipas; as well as from the United States, Texas, California, New York, Miami, Canada and Europe, decided to marry
in San Miguel de Allende, according to data from the Association of Event Organizers and Venues, and the Tourist Council of that municipality.
According to the couples, the Best City in Mexico – appointment given two years in a row by Travel + Leisure, the most important international travel magazine in the world – stands out for the warmth of its people, its fantastic weather all year round, beautiful natural settings and for its high quality of tourist services.
Guanajuato capital is also one of the favorite destinations to get married, and the municipality of San José Iturbide is beginning to position itself on this issue.
A diagnosis of the wedding tourism segment in 2018 showed that 4 percent of tourists who visited the state of Guanajuato were in a “romance trip”, that means, couples who come to celebrate a special date or anniversary such as marriage requests, bachelor parties, “Family moons”, honeymoons, renewal of vows and of course, weddings.
To plan a SMA wedding, each couple spends 10 to 12 months in average; but is also confirmed that, before choosing the destination, couples visit the chosen city at least 2 times.
Couples’ favorite places to live the party with their guests are the former haciendas, gardens, vineyards and hotels; on average, the couple invites 200 people to a wedding in the state of Guanajuato.
Since 2015, the state of Guanajuato has been considered a favorite destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Finding in cities like San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, the ideal places to hold such important personal events.
Due to the demand, the State Tourism Secretariat offers the “Romance Tourism Certification”, which is granted by several different associations such as: “Destination Weddings Latin America” and the “ABC” Association for Bridal Consultants, Association of Wedding and Event Consultants; Mexico and Latin America Chapter.
