The Cancun Travel Mart recently completed transactions for more than 4.5 billion US dollars, which represent an additional 1.5 billion to the initial projection, adding several business appointments outside fairgrounds. With this, the tourism industry in the Mexican Caribbean ensured good occupation figures for the winter season from December 2019 to February 2020.

Roberto Cintrón Gómez, president of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, explained that more than three thousand business meetings took place during the event held at the Cancun Convention Center, with sales expectations of three billion pesos, although 50% more were off site.

“We had 258 delegate buyers, 340 suppliers, 80 different stands displaying their services and closing commercial agreements. There was also the participation of wholesale agencies and tour operators from Austria, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, India, Peru , Russia, Spain, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Argentina and the United States, ” Cintrón Gómez said.

He explained that Mexican Caribbean destinations in the north of the state of Quintana Roo were promoted with tour operators from all over the world during the event.

The hotel association leader mentioned that one of the achievements this year was to open the Travel Mart not only to tourist providers of Quintana Roo, but also from other Mexican states such as Querétaro, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Yucatan, Guerrero and Guanajuato, allowing them to promote their tourism products and services, as the disappearance of the Council of Promotion of Tourism in Mexico have affected the industry significantly in their regions.

“The tourism commercialization activity online has being increasing and thus recovering the loss that was taken in past months that was up to 15%. I think we will be able to recover up to 60% during the winter season. ”Roberto Cintrón Gómez concluded.
