The SMA municipal administration works in the reforestation and rehabilitation of almost one thousand hectares within the municipality; reforestation projects are carried out with the collaboration of SMAOT and have also allowed the generation of temporary jobs.
San Miguel de Allende.- “We want to be the greenest and most environmentalist government in this country, not in words but in actions and we have a lot to do”, is the commitment made by the municipal president Luis Alberto Villarreal García together with the director of Environment and Sustainability, Francisco Peyret García .
Within the framework of the Year of the Environment and Sustainability , the municipal government, through this department, worked on the rehabilitation of soils and reforestation in the communities Agustín González, Doña Juana, Sosnabar, El Membrillo, Puerto de Nieto, San Marcos de Begoña , Los Torres, El Salitrillo and Juan Xidó.
82 thousand trees have been planted, an activity that has made possible to provide temporary employment to more than 200 San Miguel residents this year, thanks to the 2020 Municipal Climate Change Attention Program in which the participation of the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Planning of the State of Guanajuato (SMAOT).
The total investment for the development of the 2020 Program exceeds 3 million pesos, which includes the payment of temporary employment, training and technical assistance, transportation and purchase of trees and magueys.
The seriousness with which the issue has been approached through the planning and execution of projects supervised by technical members of associations such as: Agustín Madrigal and Fernando Rivera from Salvemos al Río Laja AC is essential; Arturo García from the Guanajuato Water Conservation Bodies; Atahualpa Caldera from GAIA AC and Alejandro Vasconcelos from Sano y Verde AC
The private initiative contributed around 1.5 million pesos through different organizations and companies such as Vía Orgánica, Regeneración Internacional, Avalon Fresh, Vento, Viña del Cielo, Rincón del Cielo and Los Labradores.
The goal of 82 thousand trees planted in 2020 was achieved on August 27. The rehabilitation of 550 hectares of land began in the communities of Los Torres and El Salitrillo, where the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) is also involved.
It is expected to reforest, during this year, 400 more hectares in the communities of Puerto de Nieto, Agustín González, Doña Juana and Juan Xidó; actions aimed at combating climate change.
In addition, with the ‘Zero Plastic, More Life’ campaign, the municipality said ¡No! To single-use plastic to stop using bags, straws and disposables. More than 1,200 establishments have already joined this cause in favor of the environment to inherit a better natural heritage for the children of San Miguel de Allende.
