Who doesn’t want a beautiful white smile without any crooked teeth? That is the dream of many people who have had problems in relation with their denture. Because dentistry seeks the optimal oral health of the patient, first we must have our teeth in perfect condition and then consider some aesthetic treatment to improve their appearance. One of the treatments that patients most seek are veneers, especially porcelain.
However, in which cases can this type of veneer be placed and how difficult is it to maintain them?
Definition of porcelain veneers
In general, we can understand that veneers are a thin plate that is placed on top of the teeth to improve their appearance or shape. These only cover the external part of the teeth and are made completely customized to the patient’s teeth to give an appearance as natural as possible. This treatment gives many advantages to patients, since it helps them to have a radical change in their smile. Most of the patients who approach their dentist to request this treatment are those who have fractures in the teeth, spaces between them or an unwanted coloration.
In some cases where the veneer appears unnatural, the dentist will have to scrape the tooth a bit to make them look even. However, these small blades are getting thinner as this procedure is perfected so as not to have to negatively manipulate the teeth.
How are they placed?
Once the patient expresses the desire to start this treatment, the doctor has to obtain an impression of the denture. With this, the measurement of each tooth will be taken into account to make the veneers. It is necessary that the enamel of the teeth be a little scraped for this first step. Don’t worry, provisional veneers are usually placed so you don’t feel insecure about the appearance of your teeth while you wait for your permanent veneers.
By having the correct shape, the blades will be made and tested on the patient’s teeth to verify that they match in terms of shape and dimension. Now the permanent veneers will be placed on each tooth and it will be verified that all are properly adhered to the teeth and that they are to the patient’s liking. To adhere the veneers to the teeth, a special cement is used for this type of cosmetic procedure.
Advantages of this treatment
This type of veneer offers great benefits to patients, ranging from aesthetics to practicality. First, it will not be necessary to go frequently to the specialist who placed them, since they are very resistant and it is extremely difficult for them to break. On the other hand, the color that the patient has chosen is maintained even after a long time has passed. You will only need to have a good brushing technique and the use of dental floss to keep them in optimal condition.
You must bear in mind that the specialist you choose to start this treatment must have experience in this type of cosmetic procedure. This way, you will be sure that your smile will look the way you want it to and you will not have problems as a result of a bad job.
