Open call for the Bellas Artes Medal 2023

MÉRIDA, Yucatan, January 9, 2023 – Following the instruction of the head of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatan, Liborio Vidal Aguilar, to promote art and culture, the research, academic and cultural community, as well as society in general, are invited to nominate people deserving of the Bellas Artes Medal 2023 to recognize their artistic career.

The call has been open since last November and the last day to receive proposals is January 31. This award will be presented on February 28 and distinguishes the cultural legacy and professional performance in areas such as plastic arts, music, theater, drawing, painting, writing, singing, and dance.

All persons or institutions interested in submitting proposals must request the “Guide for the Presentation of Supporting Documentation” by e-mail to [email protected], attaching their name and contact information.

Subsequently, this guide is sent to the same email address, with the data of the person considered worthy of the medal, his or her biography or curriculum vitae, accompanied by a letter addressed to the Secretary of Education, Liborio Vidal Aguilar, which must indicate the merits for which the nomination is deemed appropriate and be signed in original by the person submitting it.

In 2022, the recipient of the Medal was the visual artist Alonso Gutiérrez Espinosa, previously it was the teacher and promoter of the Mayan language Feliciano Sánchez in 2021; the actress, director, producer and teacher Eglé Mendiburu Carrillo in 2020; in the past years the award has recognized the contributions of the plastic artists Emilio Vera Granados and Manuel Lizama, as well as the dance professionals Socorro Cerón and Ofelia Martínez.
