Business meeting with Claudia Sheinbaum aims to give confidence to investors.
The meeting that Claudia Sheinbaum’s government will have with national and foreign businessmen on October 15 to explain the judicial reform during the High-Level Economic Dialogue will give confidence and certainty to investors, said the president of the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry (Index), Humberto Martínez Cantú.
During the 49th National Convention of Index, which is currently taking place in Mérida, Yucatán, the leader of the Maquiladora workers explained that the industry he represents boosted exports and transformed the country from being a seller of raw materials to being an exporter of automobiles, machinery, electrical and electronic equipment.
He considered that greater competitiveness and certainty are required to attract investments.
“The IMMEX model (Manufacturing, Maquiladora, and Export Services Industry) is an active participant in the regionalization and development of the nation, and within this, it is open to corrections… but we must avoid shocks and abrupt changes in regulations,” he said.
The industry generates almost 3 million direct jobs and 9 million indirect jobs, and of the 560 billion dollars exported from Mexico in 2023, 40%, 220 billion dollars, were maquiladora sales.
