Gustavo Petro reveals that Claudia Sheinbaum was a member of the MS-19 guerrilla group.
Claudia was a member of MS-19, so for those who don’t want two cups, MS-19 already has two presidents in Latin America,” said Gustavo Petro.
The Colombian president and former member of the M-19 guerrilla group in his country, revealed on Monday, September 30, that the new president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was also a guerrilla.
When giving a conference on climate change, organized by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which took place before a dinner with the president, in which other Latin American leaders would participate, the Colombian president said that president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum was at some point in time, a militant and activist of the Colombian guerrilla.
At the end of his participation in the conference, Petro referred to him and Sheinbaum, saying that with both in power, the M-19 guerrilla group would already have two presidents.
However, the Colombian president did not provide further details of the statement.
The April 19 Movement, also known as “MS-19,” was a guerrilla group that emerged after the irregularities in the 1970 elections that pointed to fraud committed by the ruling party headed by the winning candidate Misael Pastrana Borrego.
After this case of alleged fraud, the armed movement MS-19 emerged in 1974 and lasted until 1994.
This subversive group aimed to liberate the country and call for free elections, but it was dissolved in 1994.
