Devil’s Night is celebrated in American cities such as Detroit, Michigan, New Jersey, and Ohio and is known for being a night where many pranks are performed.
What is Devil’s Night?
The month of October is characterized, among other things, because all over the world, festivities related to death are held, with Halloween and “Day of the Dead” being the most iconic celebrations.
Depending on your region, these festivities, which in the Northern Hemisphere are linked to the end of the harvest and the beginning of the cold season, can manifest themselves in different ways.
Devil’s Night is particularly well-known in the northeastern United States. States such as Michigan, New Jersey, and Ohio stand out for celebrating this night, which is characterized by the performance of numerous pranks.
These pranks include throwing toilet paper rolls at houses, vehicles, or street furniture, ringing doorbells at neighbors’ houses, filling cars with soap, throwing garbage bags, or moving objects and different materials around town.
Most of these pranks do not cause significant damage and are merely harmless jokes. However, in some areas, this night is used to start arson attacks or damage urban infrastructure.
In cities such as Detroit, Michigan, USA, measures such as curfews for minors have been implemented. Children under 15 must remain at home from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., while those aged 17 must do so from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. unless accompanied by an adult legal guardian.
To change the perception of this celebration, Detroit has changed its name to Angel’s Night. In addition, firefighters and police carry out awareness activities. However, these measures have not managed to put an end to the fires or damage typical of Devil’s Night.
