With 28% more water than last year, SAMAPA ensures a good supply in San Miguel
Water intake at the Allende Dam increased by 28% compared to last year, guaranteeing supply in San Miguel
Unlike the El Palote de León Dam, the director of the San Miguel de Allende Potable Water and Sewerage System (SAMAPA), Iván Ureña, reported that the Allende Dam achieved a water intake of more than 28 percent compared to last year.
The municipal officials considered 2024 to be a good year for the rainy season, as the dam reached 78 percent water intake.
Water intake at the Allende Dam has improved by 28% compared to last year.
“According to statistics, we are at 78 percent capacity, while last year we closed around 50 percent. It was a significant recharge (…) For how we are, it was a very good year, but there is nothing like reaching 100 percent,” Urena said.
The director of SAMAPA explained that, per month, the inhabitants of this municipality consume up to 800 thousand cubic meters of water.
“Our water delivery system is based on our wells, of which we have a battery of 25 wells that supply the city,” he added.
In this sense, Ureña explained that this amount is sufficient to provide water to the people of San Miguel: “Right now we are doing very well in terms of supply, our water tables are well charged and we hope to continue like this.”
“Our treatment plant is 120 liters per second, and we also have 11 more treatment plants in San Miguel de Allende. This water is reused to irrigate some golf courses and flowerbeds, and the surplus goes to the Allende dam,” the San Miguel de Allende Potable Water and Sewerage System (SAMAPA), Iván Ureña added.
