Woman of the Year with the greatest impact on the wine industry
During the event’s opening dinner, at the Leonora Carrington Museum, before the state governor, Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, and the secretary of tourism, Yolanda Cepeda, recognized Sandra Fernández’s career as the Woman of the Year with the greatest impact on the wine industry.
The Mexican wine taster is a Certified Specialist in Wine & Spirits, Society of Wine Educators. She also has a degree in sensory analysis, enology, and viticulture from the University of California, Davis. As if that were not enough, she is also the Master Tequila Maker and Sommelier of the Gastronomic Collective of Hotels Xcaret.
The second great recognition was awarded at the end of the tasting sessions, today Friday, November 22, in which authorities from the Potosí government were also present.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to the winemaker Joaquín Madero, a graduate of the Institute of Enology at the University of Bordeaux. The Mexican wine taster is also an advisor in enology and viticulture for various wineries in Mexico.
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is one of the prestigious international wine competitions, which receives more than 15 thousand samples each year.
Its exclusively professional tasters evaluate the wines blindly with a single objective: to select the highest quality, without prejudice based on the reputation of the label or its designation of origin.
The competition, which began in 1994, is recognized worldwide as one of the best events in its category.
In its national version, the Mexico Selection seeks to “recognize the best wine products and spirits in the national industry. For three days, the judges work in a blind tasting to find the best exponents in terms of the qualitative expression of the product, that is, appearance, aroma, taste, and overall balance.”
