Mexico City becomes the world’s center of beauty attention this Saturday, November 16th, with the celebration of Miss Universe 2024, an event that will bring together 127 women from around the world, all competing for the coveted crown at the Mexico City Arena.
This year, the pageant presents a special edition, marked by inclusion and diversity.
In addition, this edition highlights the participation as a member of the jury of the first Mexican, originally from Yucatan, the world-renowned haute couture designer Gabriela González.
“We are not only looking for external beauty but also internal beauty,” she said after concluding the interviews with each of the participants that lasted more than 14 hours.
Gabriela González is the first Latin American woman to close two “Fashion Weeks” during London Fashion Week. She has also done countless model castings in Europe for houses such as Victoria’s Secret and in countries such as Saudi Arabia.
Miss Universe 2024 highlights the participation of countries making their debut in the competition, such as Belarus, Eritrea, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, North Macedonia, Persia, and Uzbekistan, as well as the return of Cuba after 57 years of absence.
This edition also has 10 candidates who are mothers, including the representatives of Venezuela, Honduras, Costa Rica, Brazil, and Puerto Rico, which reaffirms the evolution of the pageant towards a more inclusive vision of femininity.
Miss Egypt, who challenges conventional standards by proudly displaying her vitiligo, and the representative of South Africa, who is hearing impaired, are strong examples of the diversity that characterizes this year’s competition. On the other hand, Miss Malta, 40 years old and mother of three children, is the oldest participant, demonstrating that beauty and the ability to inspire transcend age.
The pageant also highlights the acceptance of different body types, with Trinidad and Tobago’s representative standing out as the only plus-size candidate.
The current Miss Universe, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, the first universal queen from her country, will hand over the crown on a night that promises emotions and unforgettable moments.
The hosts of the evening will be Mexicans Jackie Bracamontes and Andrea Meza, who won the title in 2022.
The pageant seeks to establish itself as a space for female empowerment.
