San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. In San Miguel de Allende, life was celebrated with the traditional “Catrinas Parade” on the occasion of the Day of the Dead.

Once again, the Best City in Mexico, and the world was filled with color, magic, mysticism, and joy with the most Mexican tradition with a San Miguel essence.

Making the new vision of the municipal president Mauricio Trejo a reality, the Municipal Government is strengthening the traditions of local families and turning them into a very valuable tourist attraction for the thousands of tourists and visitors who enjoy San Miguel during this holiday season.

Catrinas, catrines, skulls, butterflies, hats, marigold flowers, guitars, and floats gave life to all the streets of the historic center where the traditional “Catrinas Parade” passed, from El Cardo Street to the Main Plaza and ended on Correo Street; As they passed, more than 30,000 people were amazed by the costumes and makeup of these iconic Mexican characters and were the subject of countless photographs to treasure the memory of this unique experience that can only be experienced in Mexico’s #1 City.

The tourism results were successful once again, as more than 130,000 tourists and visitors attended, mainly from destinations such as the United States and Canada, although on this occasion the presence of travelers from South Korea and Japan was noted; regarding hotel occupancy, it was 100% and generated an economic spillover of more than 550 million pesos; these numbers exceeded the records of 2023 during this “Day of the Dead” weekend.

Since last October 31st with the start of an artistic cultural program that will present various expressions alluding to this Mexican tradition, the days and nights in San Miguel had magical moments with free shows for the public that took place in the Main Plaza and in some other points of the historic center, as well as in traditional neighborhoods and colonies of this World Heritage city.

Placement and blessing of offerings, folkloric ballet, pre-Hispanic dances, film showing in the historic pantheon of the San Juan de Dios neighborhood, the traditional Velación de Concheros almost at midnight to receive the souls, theatrical expressions such as a monologue and the long-awaited by all the local and visiting population: “Parade of Catrinas” … this is how the most Mexican tradition with a San Miguel essence was experienced.

This popular festival was enjoyed in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, where the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported “nothing.”
