In order not to “normalize violence,” the governor of Guanajuato, Libia García Muñoz Ledo, asked mayors not to hire artists who sing narcocorridos at concerts and fairs.

At the request of the governor, the Salvatierra government canceled the performance of the narco corridos singer El Comander.

The governor revealed that she has held meetings with 20 of the 46 mayors of Guanajuato to discuss strategic issues and, as part of the requests, is to support the holding of fairs in the different municipalities.

“We cannot promote this type of culture of violence and crime; we will not use resources from the state to promote violence, we will only support culture and activities that strengthen the social fabric and the wellbeing of families,” argued Libia García.

She stressed that the state government and society should avoid events that encourage violence.

“I disapprove narco corridos as a mother, and as an aunt, I have nephews and nieces who are at an age where they can go to these concerts,” she said.

The governor urged the people of Guanajuato not to “listen to that type of music that generates a normalization of negative things in our society.”
