San Miguel de Allende.- The first stone of what will be the UNAM campus in this city was laid on October 22nd.
The municipal president, Luis Alberto Villarreal García, together with the state governor, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo and Enrique Graue Wiechers , rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), led the event.
“Today we are laying the first stone of UNAM San Miguel, it is not just any university, it is the best public university in Mexico and Latin America for the best city in the world and the best people of all. That is what in Guanajuato allows us to transcend and continue to be the Grandeur of Mexico, that is what makes this Heart of Mexico beat strong and continue to stand, ”said President Villarreal García.
The Ministry of Infrastructure begins work on the UNAM campus in San Miguel
The rector and governor lead the laying of the first stone an inclusive plan Roberto López Tura, Connectivity and Mobility of the State of Guanajuato (Sicom), heads the construction work of this educational space that will be located on the road to Querétaro and will have an area of 4.5 hectares thanks to a tripartite investment between the municipality, state and the house of studies of 42 million pesos.
The governor, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez pointed out that, “with the beginning of the construction of this extension unit of the UNAM San Miguel de Allende, we can proudly affirm that from Guanajuato we are giving good news to Mexico. For 30 years we have been betting on education because we knew that it was the only lever for development; It is time to be a factor of unity and not of division, this moment is a watershed for the entire region ”, he added.
For his part, the rector Enrique Graue thanked both authorities for making it possible for UNAM to reach San Miguel de Allende, “we are here to lay the first stone of a new educational complex, it is truly a light of hope in the future of the nation, together we can achieve a country with greater opportunities for equality and social justice, ”he said.
An inclusive plan
The project of this campus stands out for its inclusive facilities for students with disabilities, it will have an elevator, ramps and adapted bathrooms.
In the first stage, it will receive 800 students, later, it will be able to house up to 4 thousand young people between university careers and postgraduate courses offered in a space dedicated to Science, Technology, and Research.
