The PAN-PRI-PRD candidate for governor of Guanajuato, Libia García Muñoz Ledo, won the election in Guanajuato with 1,250,109 votes, according to the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP) of the Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato (IEEG).
With 91 percent of the votes counted, 7,442 of 8,166, the PAN candidate obtained 51.3 percent of the votes.
After 33 years of National Action Party (PAN) governments in Guanajuato, Libia García will be the first woman governor.
Since 1991, the PAN has governed the state, the first Executive was Carlos Medina Plascencia, followed by Vicente Fox Quezada, Juan Carlos Romero Hicks, Juan Manuel Oliva Ramírez, Miguel Márquez Márquez and the current governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo.
According to the PREP, the Morena-PVEM-PT candidate, the former PAN member Alma Alcaraz Hernández, came in second place with 991,100 votes, that is, 40.7 percent of the votes.
In third place is the candidate of Movimiento Ciudadano, the former PRI member Yulma Rocha Aguilar, with 138,659 votes, which represent 5.6 percent, according to the PREP.
The virtual governor-elect, Libia García Muñoz Ledo, promised not to fail the people of Guanajuato to return peace and tranquility.
She reiterated that the Attorney General, Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre, and the Secretary of Security, Alvar Cabeza de Vaca, will not be in her administration.
“I have given, from the first day of my campaign, my word that we will have a new security strategy and that implies changes in the positions of both security and the Attorney General’s Office,” she reiterated.
The next governor will not have a comfortable position in the state Congress because the PAN lost its majority. Of the 22 electoral districts, it won 14, 11 alone and three with the help of the PRI and the PRD.
