33 years ago, the Dragones de la Reina de San Miguel de Allende marching band was created; this is its history

Since 1991, the marching band has been ranked as the best in the state and has been recognized both nationally and internationally.

Thirty-three years ago, Professor Esteban Perales Morales started a project without knowing that it would become an emblem of San Miguel de Allende. The Dragones de la Reina marching band has been recognized throughout its history as the best in the state and its main focus is to promote values in children and young people from San Miguel de Allende.

The origin of the band dates back to 1991, when the then municipal president, Manuel Zavala, called Esteban Perales who worked as a teacher at the official secondary school, teaching marching to young people and directing the marching band.

That year, the call was opened to the general public, and around 150 candidates were gathered, including young people and adults, of whom 35 members were chosen.

The marching band has great recognition.

At the request of Esteban Perales, professor Victor Manuel Anguiano García joined the project, and would be in charge of instructing the members on the history of Mexico; and Aniceto Morales Muñoz, who was the first instructor of a marching band in the municipality of San Miguel, and would contribute his knowledge about marches and the use of instruments.

The band survives thanks to the support it receives at the events in which it participates, and to the contributions of the members who gather for the celebration of its anniversary.
