The demonstration of different collectives for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25N) entered the capital’s main square to begin the rally after almost an hour of walking.

Setting off to the rhythm of Batucada, from the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan, crossing Paseo de la Reforma and 5 de Mayo, the collectives took over the main square of Mexico City’s Zócalo.

Dressed in black with purple bandanas, for the most part, despite the intensity of the sun’s rays at 4 in the afternoon, the different collectives advanced with banners that denounce the abuse and violence that many women suffer in our country.

During the demonstration, the song Vivir sin miedo by Vivir Quintana was sung on several occasions, while purple flares colored the activists’ path.

Other slogans that were constantly heard were: “Down with the patriarchy, it will fall, it will fall,” “We are going to overthrow the patriarchal system,” “sold-out judges, lost children,” “Now that we are together, now that they see us,” “Not one more, not one more, not one more will be murdered.”

In the denunciation of violence against women, some ask for their friends, sisters, mothers, aunts, and daughters who were murdered. Their messages emphasize that “it was not an accident, it was femicide,” and they ask for justice for each of the women whose lives were taken.

A large group of protesters demanded the federal authorities search for missing children. They highlighted the struggle and search for those missing children and relatives, whose mothers are constantly working to find them without any help from the Human Rights Commission or the municipal, state, or federal authorities.

Some protesters began to hit the windows of the bus stops. Others began to paint the phrases Mexico feminicide 25N on different structures on Pases de la Reforma.

The metal mesh that protects several buildings seemed like a magnet for those radical groups who did not hesitate to hammer on them on several occasions.
