On Thursday October 13, the mayor of Irapuato, Ricardo Ortiz Gutierrez and the mayor of McAllen, Texas Jim Darling, signed a letter of intent along with a commercial airline, to open a new direct flight from the Bajio International Airport to McAllen, Texas.
In order to strengthen cultural relations and trade between Irapuato and McAllen, both mayors participated in a working meeting with the President of the “Sister Cities Commission”, José Luis Saldaña Villanueva; the director of the McAllen Airport, Elizabeth Suarez, and the Commercial Director of the air carrier, Miguel Angel Martinez Arana.
Ricardo Ortiz said the economic dynamism of Irapuato allows this new flight to connect the state of Texas with all the Mexican cities in the “Industrial Corridor”; not only Leon, Salamanca and Celaya in the state of Guanajuato; but also other cities in the neighboring states of Queretaro, Jalisco, Michoacan, Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosi due to its proximity to the Bajío International Airport.
Elizabeth Suarez, Director of the McAllen Airport, explained that cultural and commercial benefits will be brought to this city in the United States of America, and this will strengthen the relations with its sister city Irapuato and promote growth for both communities.
