During the revolution holiday long-weekend, three explosions occurred simultaneously in three different locations within the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security, the detonations occurred on Monday, November 21, around 5:30 am, in the neighborhoods of “Ignacio Ramírez”, “San Felipe Neri” and “Avenida Independencia”.
No fatalites or injuries were reported, only material damages were registered .
The State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) reported that: “the file investigation was open immediately in order to determine responsibilities for material damages caused by three explosions involving apparently homemade artifacts”.
The PGJE spokesperson also pointed out that: “no people resulted injured during the incidents”.
Guanajuato’s State Police Officers, Transit Agents, Civil Protection and Emergency Personnel arrived on the different crime scenes in response to the citizens’ reports to the emergency lines.
Through a statement, the State Police informed that: “Several witnesses declared that the detonations took place at drug dealing related properties”.
“One of the explosions occurred in a house located on Calle 1° de Mayo, Colonia Ignacio Ramírez; home of a presumed drug dealer known as ‘El Padre’.
The second explosion took place at Calle Fray Juan de San Miguel, Colonia Felipe Neri, in the house that belongs to a man known in the neighborhood as “El Pariente”; and the third explosion occurred on Independencia Avenue, in a property where another alleged drug dealer known as “El Chucky” used to live” reported the SSP.
Explosive experts from the SSP arrived at each of the three locations to conduct the proper investigations, and determine the type of objects that provoked the explosions and proceed to look for evidence or any clues that may lead to the people responsible for these explosions.
It should be noted this is the third time that homemade artifacts are detonated in San Miguel de Allende.
On Monday September 5, an abandoned backpack exploded outside a bar in the downtown area of this city, resulting in six people injured and several establishments and vehicles damaged.
In a similar incident, on Saturday August 6, at 3 am, a homemade grenade (flash bang) was detonated inside “El Sótano”, a bar located on Calzada de la Estación, right next to the train station in San Miguel de Allende.
Another municipality affected by this kind of criminal acts was Abasolo:
On Saturday August 29 and Friday September 2, different explosions occurred in a brewery, a grocery store and a tortillería, where eight people resulted with serious injuries.
In relation to those events, Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez declared that: “the investigations made by the State Attorney General’s Office revealed that the perpetrators of the explosions had used homemade artifacts”.
