At least 10 hotels are expected to open their doors in the state of Querétaro during the year 2017, according to Querétaro’s State Secretary of Tourism, Hugo Burgos Garcia.
“Some of them belong to national and international chains, while others are “boutique hotels”, term used to describe small hotels which have typically between 5 and 15 rooms”, continued the official.
“We are expecting 10 new hotels to start operations this year, some of which are boutique hotels (from 6 to 12 rooms) currently in process to establish here in Querétaro. This type of accomodations are quite popular in places like San Miguel de Allende, Mérida, Yucatán and other tourist destinations, and they are beginning to spread throughout our state,” said Burgos Garcia.
He pointed out that most of these hotels coming to Querétaro belong to private major international or national chains, and their presence in Querétaro helps to consolidate the state as an important tourist destination.
“Some of these hotels are operated by private local entrepreneurs (more or less as a franchise), but they always count with the support of the big corporations,” he added.
The head of the Tourism Secretariat, said that a hotel boom is taking place in the municipality of “El Marqués”, since this place is part of the tourist route that features local vineyards and haciendas.
Hugo Burgos García stated that 2017 will be a good year for Querétaro’s tourism sector, with events such as the “Conque Comic Convention”, which since its announcement, caused national expectation; along with the possibility of becoming once again the venue for the “Charro” National Congress .
“Convención Quetzalcoatl” or “ConQue” (Quetzalcoatl Convention was named in honor to the “feathered serpent” Aztec god of wind and learning), is a Mexican Comic Book Convention that was created and hosted in Mexico City from 1994 through 2001.
In 2017, ConQue returns to our country, and for the first time it will take place in the city of Queretaro, Qro.
