Fernando Olivera Rocha, Secretary of Guanajuato’s Tourism, stated: “Guanajuato has had an influx of hundreds of thousands of visitors with a significant economic impact of 3,825 million pesos, seven percent more than in 2016. With 975,000 people traveling along the state, we’re looking at four percent more than last year”.

Olivera Rocha said that “in León, hotel occupancy has registered an average of 65%, and the five-star hotels have been at full capacity during this holy week”. Meanwhile, Silao hoteliers informed that the room occupancy shows a similar situation, which means an incredible growth in this sector for this city”.

The city of Guanajuato has registered new records in the tourism sector, with a 100% hotel occupancy, and San Miguel de Allende with 90%. The Guanajuato’s Magic Towns (Pueblos Mágicos) also show great figures during this Easter holidays, with an average between 90 and 100% occupancy.

“In relation to this great data, we are looking forward to receive new hotel investments soon, since our capacity is exceeded. We have also realized how many Guanajuato’s destinations are focusing on attracting more visitors during this holiday period which gives us great pleasure”, pointed out the official.

The tourists usually come from all the Mexican states, and of course, many of them are foreigners, showing the enormous interest among people from all over the world to visit the most important cultural destination in Mexico.

The Tourist’s behavior in Guanajuato is changing, they are looking for new experiences, not only visiting traditional cities, traditional cultural attractions or natural landscapes, but also touring the routes of Tequila, Mezcal or cheese; making Guanajuato a spearheading destination in México.

Finally, Olivera estimated that at the end of these holidays, a total of 1.5 million people would have visited Guanajuato, registering a growth of five to seven percent, compared to the same period last year.
