San Miguel de Allende.- Citizens protested on social networks, claiming that the Juárez and Zeferino Gutiérrez parks are being privatized , the local government clarified that on the contrary, what is sought is to create boards with citizen participation precisely so that people can take care of these vital spaces.
Currently the municipal government, through the Directorates of Environment and Sustainability and the area known as Municipal Public Services and Quality of Life, manages public parks, but seeks to do this together with civil society through a new regulation initiative.
This is the regulation for the formation of boards of trustees that proposes to open spaces so that citizens can make decisions about the operation of the Benito Juárez and Zeferino Gutiérrez parks , with the same rules and limitations to which the government itself is currently subject.
This intention raised suspicions among the population; The nonconformists point out that a board of trustees could give control over the park to a few people and assure that “the parks belong to the people.”
The local government announced that “with this initiative, if approved, the parks would not be privatized; on the contrary, decentralized bodies are created with citizen participation (not private companies) for the optimal functioning and administration of these spaces that are and will continue to be public ”.
