The Parade of the Locos in San Miguel de Allende is one of the oldest traditions in the city, it takes place every year in honor of San Juan Bailón.
This is one of the oldest traditions in San Miguel de Allende, one of the two World Heritage cities in Guanajuato; the festival has more than 40 years of history. The Parade of Locos 2022 will take place next Sunday, June 19.
Every year in San Miguel de Allende the Parade of Los Locos is held, in honor of San Juan Bailón, known for being the Saint of the orchards. The story tells that the indigenous people who worked in the orchards, at the time of being catechized, learned about this patron saint, also called San Pascual Bailón.
What is the Parade of Fools?
This parade is made up of an approximate number of nine traditional groups, all made up of people who were born in San Miguel de Allende. In its realization, all are characterized by masks, hats, and colorful and crazy clothes.
The parade starts from the church of San Antonio and ends in the Central Garden, the main streets of San Miguel de Allende are filled with parties and color. Both the participants and the spectators get a dose of fun like no other.
The contestants throw sweets at the spectators. To keep the parade alive, there is live music and parties in every part of the city.
