The work and talent of Guanajuato-born chef Rubén Omar Álvarez Rodríguez is recognized beyond Mexico’s borders with a nomination for Best Chef in the 2025 Irish Restaurants Awards.
For 16 years, the Restaurant Association of Ireland has recognized excellence in Irish restaurants through a rigorous selection and evaluation process.
In this 2025 edition, the Guanajuato-born chef is on the list of nominees for his work in the kitchen of Moody Café Vin Bar, located in the city of Cork, in the southwest of the island.
Rubén, a gastronomy graduate from the Technological University of San Miguel de Allende, has developed culinary offerings that fuse local flavors with Mexican and other international cuisines, establishing himself among diners for his seasoning and style.
His passion for culinary arts, his talent, and his tenacity have led Rubén to work in the kitchens of prestigious restaurants in Mexico’s main tourist destinations, such as San Miguel de Allende, Cancún, Los Cabos, and Acapulco, spanning nearly 15 years.
Almost three years ago, Rubén crossed the Atlantic to continue his studies and gain experience in international cuisines, having also completed internships in France and Spain years ago.
The Irish Restaurants Awards were founded in 2009 to recognize the best gastronomic experiences in the country. Its categories include Best Customer Service Experience, Best Chef, Best Cafe, Best World Cuisine, and Best Sustainable Practices.
Nominations are obtained directly from diners, who propose their favorites in a process that takes place in January and which leads to a review by the Restaurant Association of Ireland to formalize the nominations.
