Paralelo 28 is an initiative promoted by four civil society organizations with the aim of involving companies, fishermen, service providers, tourists and society in general in the conservation and sustainable use of Protected Natural Areas in Mexico’s Northwest.
They are looking for donations to help them continue working to preserve the natural richness of Mexico.
Paralelo 28 launched the program “Se Buscan Heroes” (Heroes Wanted); heroes who could help other heroes to continue protecting our natural wealth.
With some help from those heroes, and that of everyone, this initiative can continue working to promote the protection, vigilance, and sustainable use of the seas and natural resources in Mexico.
LAS ISLAS MARIETAS
This is an archipelago formed by Isla Larga, Isla Redonda and two small islands 10 km from Punta Mita and 28 km from Nuevo Vallarta, at the northern end of Bahía de Banderas.
This archipelago was declared a natural protected area with the category of a National Park on April 25, 2005.
In 2008 it was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

LORETO, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR.
The Bahía de Loreto National Park is surrounded by the imposing Sierra de la Giganta and comprises the islands of Coronado, Del Carmen, Danzante, Monserrat and Santa Catalina.
The 5 islands and 8 islets that make up the Bahía de Loreto National Park were included in the Protected Islands and Areas of the Gulf of California in 2005, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

BAHÍA DE LOS ÁNGELES
The marine area known as Bahía de los Ángeles, and the Ballenas and Salsipuedes channels, represents a coastal and marine system characterized by its high biological productivity, landscape value, and excellent state of conservation.
It is a valuable natural asset for Mexico and the world, and a significant natural refuge for diverse marine species.

ESPÍRITU SANTO ARCHIPELAGO NATIONAL PARK
The land area of the Espíritu Santo forms part of the Islands in the Gulf of California Flora and Fauna Protection Area, which includes over 900 islands, amounting to around half of the nation’s islands; while the surrounding marine zone encompasses the Espíritu Santo National Park, decreed in 2007.

CABO PULMO NATIONAL PARK, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR.
The Cabo Pulmo National Park is one of the most important areas in the Gulf of California. Its importance lies in the large number of marine species that live here and the fact that its waters are home to the region’s only living coral reef.

The area comprising the Bahía de Cabo Pulmo was declared a protected zone by the State of Baja California Sur, becoming part of the National System of Protected Areas on June 6, 1995.
Thanks to its biological wealth and diversity, on June 7, 2000 it was declared a natural area with the character of a marine park.
