CDMX México (Times Media Mexico) – In an unprecedented action –“The Mexican government will claim the confiscated assets of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, alias “El Chapo,” as they legally belong to the country of Mexico”.- This is what Andrés Manuel López Obrador said at a press conference this morning.

Marcelo Ebard in charge
Faced with this, the president said that everything that is confiscated by law is for Mexico. He also said that for the formalities of the request Marcelo Ebrard will be in charge.

“The United States wants to keep the goods obtained in “El Chapo´s” conviction. We do not accept it since there is no legal basis, we are not going to fail to address these issues through the legal route. In any case those assets correspond to Mexico legally and the matter will be reviewed.” AMLO said in his morning conference.

It remains to be seen how the United States government will react to this statement.
