SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Gto.- On Sunday, September 4th, under the slogan “Peace, no more violence”, dozens of people -dressed in white clothes- marched along the Main Garden in downtown San Miguel, protesting against the recent wave of violence that SMA has lived in the last days, especially crimes committed involving firearms and weapons.

During August 2016, at least five shootouts took place in different communities near SMA, where people died or suffered serious injuries.

Additionally, in another incident that took place Friday September 2, a 17-year-old named Efren ‘N’, died from gunshot wounds. This situation caused great concern among the people of San Miguel, who decided to “march peacefully against violence”.

The Mayor of San Miguel de Allende, Ricardo Villarreal declared that these kind of violent events are the result of confrontations between drug dealers. And said that state and municipal law enforcement agencies are conducting operations to prevent more unfortunate situations.

Nevertheless, these measures do not seem to be effective, since during the early morning hours of Monday, September 5, an explosion of great magnitude occurred in a commercial establishment in downtown San Miguel de Allende, resulting in three people injured
