Human Rights State Office investigates death of three children in San Miguel

The Guanajuato’s State Attorney’s Office of Human Rights (Procuraduría de Derechos Humanos de Guanajuato, PDHEG)  began an investigation into the death of three children during a shooting between a criminal armed group and police officers at a farm in “Ampliación Cieneguita” in the outskirts of San Miguel de Allende.

“The confrontation occurred on Saturday January 14, near the San Miguel – Dolores highway, where three innocent children, Mateo, Adrián y Gabriel, ages 4, 8 and 11 respectively, were killed by gunshot”, informed the Guanajuato’s Attorney General of Justice.

In a statement, the Attorney General confirms that Antonio Luna, father of the children who participated in the shooting, is allegedly responsible for the three deaths, and therefore was arrested. Besides, Juana Luna, mother of the children, points out her husband as the person reponsible of this crime.

Consequently, Guanajuato’s State Attorney Office of Human Rights initiated the File 04/17-D, regarding these unfortunately events in San Miguel de Allende.

Juana Luna, mother of the victims, filed the complaint before Human Rights personnel, who issued a statement saying that “there is a full commitment to find out who is responsible for this horrible crime, apprehend them and punish them according to law.”

Different testimonies are being gathered in order to strengthen the investigation.

The actions taken by the PDHEG contemplate psychological and economic support to the victims’ family.
