GUANAJUATO, Gto — 135 students, from the Civil Engineering School of the University of Guanajuato, participated in the “OlimpiANEIC”, in which they won first place at the national level.
The Guanajuato’s team participated in four disciplines: academic, cultural, technical and sports as part of this event organized by the National Association of Students of Civil Engineering (ANEIC).
“One year ago, Guanajuato students competed in the Mexican state of Colima, where we did fairly good, however there were some areas of opportunity in which we need to pay more attention and work hard to make improvement. So we did, and the result is that we’ve won first place in this year’s competition”, said César Francisco Cruz Villegas, delegate and participant in this match.
Cruz Villegas continued: “I am profoundly proud and satisfied with our participation on this edition of “OlimpiANEIC”, because this triumph came as a consequence of the whole team’s great effort” .
At least 1,700 students from 40 state universities nationwide participated in the Olympiad that took place on May 18, 19 and 20 in the northern city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
“In the technical area we participated constructing miniature bridges made out of sticks, and we ended up setting a new national record, since our bridge was able to support a weight of 200,000 pounds. We also elaborated concrete cubes.
“Talking about sports, we won first place in cycling, thanks to the great preparation and capability of our state team”, explained César Francisco Cruz Villegas.
Cruz Villegas concluded: “Students from all semesters of our school had participation in this national level event, they prepared from the beginning of each year in each category for this competition, and one of the factors that helped them to get the first place was that each participant trained and prepared to get the necessary skills to win”.
