With shovel in hand, former President Mexican Vicente Fox and his wife Marta Sahagún, president of the Vamos México Foundation, laid the first stone of the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center of San Miguel de Allende (CRISMA), which currently provides physical and neurological rehabilitation services to over 200 people with disabilities in the region, including newborns and adults.

Parents, children with disabilities, volunteers and local authorities witnessed the act that kicks off the construction of the new building on a two-hectare lot, located next to the module of the Municipal Sports Commission (Comude).

Two years after Vamos México assumed the responsibility of CRISMA, it has obtained resources from donors and the land property from the City Council to build a state-of-the-art hospital.

Marta Sahagún pointed out that in one year the first of three stages of the Center is completed and in operation, and in five more years it will be fully operational to care for 500 patients.

Sahagún also said that this is a high-end medical, technological and educational project that will provide world-class attention to its patients. Former President Vicente Fox stressed that 200 million pesos will be invested in what he called “this great hospital”.

“It is a great satisfaction to launch this great hospital to treat brain damage and help people from rural areas, and low income communities that face this problem,” he added.

It will also be a Research and Science Center, a Paralympic sports practice facility and a place for volunteers who want to carry out altruistic actions to benefit the most vulnerable sectors of society.

The Secretary of Government, Gustavo Rodríguez Junquera, representing Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez and San Miguel de Allende’s Mayor Ricardo Villarreal García, praised the project, that according to them, will bring health benefits to hundreds of people, especially children.

In the presentation of the project, the director of CRISMA, Sergio Legorreta, described the model of care of the institution, which has the mission of providing physical and neurological rehabilitation services to people with disabilities of limited economic resources.

Architect Rafael Carmona, designer of the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center, said that this is an atypical project that will feature a clinic with different therapeutic scope.

The 20 thousand square meters project will also feature ecological sports facilities, an auditorium, rehabilitation rooms, classrooms, diagnostic areas, therapeutic garden, pool, mechanotherapy rooms and jogging track.

The architecture work wsa conceived according to the urban image of SMA.

Grupo Merza gave CRISMA a donation of 150 thousand pesos.
