According to corporations, the passengers were coming from Bajío International Airport.

A platform transportation service driver was killed, and one of his passengers, a US citizen, was seriously injured after an armed attack that occurred on the San Miguel de Allende-Guanajuato highway.

The incident occurred near the community of La Esperanza. A second passenger, also of US origin, was unharmed, although he suffered a nervous breakdown.

The incident occurred when the driver, originally from San Miguel de Allende, was transporting the two foreigners, who had arrived from Los Angeles, California, at the Bajío Airport, and were bound for San Miguel de Allende.

According to the first reports, an armed group intercepted them and opened fire on the vehicle, causing the immediate death of the driver and leaving one of the passengers with a gunshot wound.

Following the attack, members of the San Miguel de Allende Municipal Police, State Public Security Forces, and the National Guard went to the scene to secure the area and gather information. Likewise, Red Cross paramedics treated the wounded and transferred the injured passenger to a hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities deployed an operation in the area to find those responsible, but no arrests have been reported.

The body of the driver was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service SEMEFO, where the required autopsy will be performed.

So far, the causes of the attack have not been disclosed, nor whether the victims had received previous threats.
