The festival will take place on July 22-31 in San Miguel Allende and in Guanajuato City. This year’s festival, in its 19th edition, and it is proud to welcome Japan as its Guest of Honor.
As a non-profit cultural event free admission to the public, GIFF is made possible each year through the generous participation of institutions and partners, who each lend their support to the festival; whose main objective is the strengthening of cinema through the mutual exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas.
Except for private events and the Tunnel Fest, all festival activities are free of charge and no ticket is required.
During the past fifteen years GIFF has established itself as one of the most important platform for young filmmakers in Latin America, bringing upcoming talents together with world-renowned experts of the moving image. In 2015 GIFF received over 3,100 films from 116 countries for competition.
In this year’s festival, special representatives from Japan will offer conferences, workshops and special programs showcasing their most recent and historical productions, as well as presentations of their diverse methods of work.
These activities will strength relations between cinematographers of both countries, exchanging knowledge and creating conditions that are favorable for cinematic co-production.
