LEON, Gto.- The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in coordination with the Regional Deputy for Criminal Control, Procedures and Injuctions in the state of Guanajuato, initiated an investigation file against two suspects, who were caught in possession of 57 kilograms (126 lbs) of marijuana.
As part of Inter-agency collaboration between the three levels of government (Federal, State and Municipal), the Joint Operating Base (Base de Operaciones Mixta) was established on federal highway 43-D, Morelia-Salamanca.
At kilometer 102 + 850, in the municipality of Valtierrilla, agents of the Federal Ministerial Police, accompanied by the State Ministerial Police and State Public Security officers detained two individuals on board a vehicle, and the law enforcement agents detected odor of marijuana and decided to conduct a search.
During the inspection, the agents found in the back of the vehicle a 750 liters water tank which contained 50 packages of marijuana with a gross weight of 57 kilograms.
Suspects, vehicle, water tank and drugs were confiscated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Salamanca, who continues integrating the investigation file for crimes against health in the modality of transportation.
The legal status of the two suspects is yet to be determined, but they are facing a sentence of at least 15 to 20 years.
