According to Periodico Correo, the municipal government of San Miguel de Allende announced that Gabriela Enríquez has all the permits necessary to establish an exotic animal reserve on her land.

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- Gabriela Enríquez, owner of the property known as El Calvarito, next to the Atotonilco Church, and who is accused by residents of wanting to take over this site, declared that locals have harassed her and accused them of killing some of her exotic animals. On her ranch, she has lions, wolves, owls, and even Axolotls.

Through a video that she posted on social networks, Gabriela narrated that she arrived 7 years ago in San Miguel to create a conservation area, transform the subsoil, rescue the sacred trees of Atotonilco, and save the water. She stated that it has been the most difficult project of her life.

She underlined that it seemed unfair to declare that she wanted to destroy or do harm to this beautiful place called El Calvarito.

“El Calvario belongs to the people and the town of Atotonilco, I have nothing to do with that. My land goes up to a certain limit, the rest is theirs,” Enriquez said.

She added that in December last year, just a week before Christmas, at 11:00 at night, armed men entered her property, threatening her and killing a deer or two.

Gabriela Enríquez referred to these men as “terrorists” and she asked the people of Atotonilco to understand that this is not a political movement and that these criminals are armed and dangerous.
